  1. I would like to pick my coach Kelley Tafazzoli as a leader in my sport. One of the factors she exemplifies is that she "Model's the Way". She is a great role model to every single individual on our team. Her morals in life are very inspiring and she leads the team in the right direction. If I ever have my own team one day I would want to exemplify the same characteristics that she does. She has a vision for our team and she pushes us to be the best dancer and teammate we can be. Her effort as a coach is always above and beyond. Not only is she an inspiring leader as a coach but she is an amazing mother to her first child and shows how a working mother can handle so many things. Another X-Factor that Coach Kelley is that she challenges the process. She challenges herself to always become a better coach and she challenges us to become better teammates. She always perseveres and leads us to be the best dance team we can be!

  2. A leader I admire is my teammate Cristin Lewis. She is a senior on the Tennessee Dance team. One of the factors she exemplifies is she "Encourages the Heart." While most students have a month long winter break, the dance team got one week off. The rest of winter break we were practicing for 12 hours a day. After many 12 hour days of practice, me and my teammates were starting to wear down. We were losing interest and losing the heart we had when we started. Cristin was always there to encourage us and to remind us why we were there. We had a goal in mind and Cristin always helped us work toward that goal. She knew we were all tired and worn out and so was she, but she never lost hope and she always believed in each one of us. This meant more to me than she knows. She gave me and many of my teammates the motivation we needed to keep pushing. In the end, her encouragement truly paid off as we fulfilled our goal and dream of becoming the 2015 National Champions. Cristin's x-factor is the way she leads by example. She works hard, respects teammates, and challenges each of us to be the best dancer we can be. Even when we were all tired and worn out, Cristin persevered and kept working hard; therefore, we all followed her lead. Cristin always wants whats best for the team and we are a better team because of her.

  3. A leader in my sport that I fully admire is my teammate, Jordyn Smalling. Last season Jordyn came off of knee surgery and she has been in constant rehabilitation since. Jordyn is a sophomore and a second year member of the dance team. A factor that she closely models is that she “encourages the heart.” Although Jordyn did not dance along side us during our national championship competition, she put in more effort then anyone else on our team. She sat through every practice that we had with the biggest smile on her face, helping us in any way that she could. She offered advice, corrections, and suggestions to make our dance routine the absolute best that it could have been. During our extremely long practices, she reminded us of our common goal and why we all started dancing in the first place. We all wished that Jordyn could have been out there on the floor competing with us, but pushed us to be the absolute best teammate and dancer that we could possibly be. Without her heart and passion for our team, we would have not come out victorious. Jordyn is a vital member of our team and we are so thankful for her efforts, for we are all national champions.

  4. Hannah Mabry is senior on the cheerleading team and she is a leader in sports I admire. "Models the way" is a factor that Hannah exemplifies. Hannah is a great role model for everyone on our team. She leads by example and by her actions, as well as vocally. She is always doing what she is suppose to and always goes above and beyond. Hannah is always a very encouraging to all of us on the team even when practices get difficult. Hannah is also a very positive person and always has a positive outlook on situations, when sometimes our team has a negative one. She is the teams "pick me up" through out all of our nationals season even when some of our main people were getting hurt very close to nationals. The x-factor Hannah had was leading by example. She sometimes never even had to say a word to lead our team to be doing the right things. She is also a very hard worker, and she is harder on herself then anyone else is. She also has high expectation of our team and never let us put our selves down and never let us stop working to our fullest potential. Overall Hannah is a great leader and role model inside and outside of cheerleading, and it helped us get a top 10 finish and also be better people out side of the cheerleading world.

  5. A leader in my sport that I admire is one of my former teammates. Katie Kindred was a senior on the team when I was a freshman and exemplified many of the five practices, including “Model the Way.” Katie led mostly by example rather than being a highly vocal leader. She spoke up when necessary, but mostly she set an example for how everyone on the team should respond to obstacles that were thrown our way. As one of only three freshman that competed that year, I was able to look to Katie when I did not know what to do. She made me feel like a welcome member of the team rather than an outsider amongst people who had been together for years. Her attitude helped keep the team together as a unit even when we were practicing 9 hours a day, seven days a week over Christmas break and frustrations began to build at practice. This showed that she could “Enable Others to Act” because she was able to create a family atmosphere amongst the team even when tensions may have been rising at practice. Despite not being the most talented team that year, everyone pushed themselves beyond where they ever thought they could and believed that we could achieve any goal we wanted. She showed each person that they were a valuable attribute to the team and made everyone want to work hard for her and all of our teammates. This exemplifies her ability to “Encourage the Heart”. Katie’s x-factor was that she could get everyone to push themselves to the limit working towards a common goal for the benefit of the whole team rather than the individual. Under her leadership we were very successful that year despite many difficult circumstances that we faced.
